BNI+1 Katowice Group: Inspiring Meeting in Krakow and a Joint Theatre Outing Joint Actions for the Transformation of the Automotive Industry in Silesia

Joint Actions for the Transformation of the Automotive Industry in Silesia

During the WRDS meeting in Katowice, we refined joint demands concerning the future of the automotive industry in the region, focusing on job protection and investment support in Silesia.

The Regional Social Dialogue Council (WRDS) in Katowice hosted an important meeting dedicated to the transformation of the automotive sector in Silesia. In response to dynamic regulatory changes and growing challenges faced by the industry, participants developed a common position and specific proposals for the government aimed at protecting jobs and supporting the further development of the sector.

The automotive sector is a key branch of the Silesian voivodeship's economy, with over 1,100 companies operating and providing thousands of jobs, contributing significantly to the region's GDP. The industry currently faces challenges such as the Green Deal requirements, rising costs, strong foreign competition, and risks of supply chain disruptions.

The document prepared by WRDS includes several demands, including:

  • Launching a just transition program for regions particularly threatened by plant closures;
  • Introducing flexible working hours and temporary support systems for employees;
  • Enabling financing of salaries during downtime;
  • Renegotiating EU funds towards infrastructure and innovation investments;
  • Increasing support for technology development, recycling, and testing new automotive solutions;
  • Simplifying environmental regulations to avoid hindering industry modernization.

The proposals were developed in cooperation with the SA&AM Cluster, Employers of Poland, the Katowice Special Economic Zone, and industry experts. Workerservice, with 75% of its employees linked to the automotive sector, actively participates in this dialogue as a WRDS member representing the Business Centre Club.

Thanks to the involvement of various stakeholders, it is possible to create solutions that support the region's development and address real labor market needs in Silesia.
